Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, France's Most Popular Woman, Too Popular for the Internet
A website launched by French first lady Carla Bruni has crashed on its first day - overwhelmed by the number of users trying to access it at once.
The site promises a glimpse into her life with President Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace and aims to publicise her charity work. Visitors to carlabrunisarkozy.org were met with a message in French requesting them to try again in a few hours.
The ex-supermodel singer has another site dedicated to her music career. But the new website was unable to cope with demand after it was publicised on French news channels. It will promote her work as ambassador for the Geneva-based Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria; profile her French foundation; and document aspects of her life as France's first lady, according to the French news agency AFP.
