Australian fire alert system fails under volume
Acting Victorian Premier Rob Hulls has admitted "it's not good enough'' that the Country Fire Authority's website to crash yesterday during its first serious test since Black Saturday.
The CFA has today ordered a major investigation after the website crashed despite being updated and recently tested for any flaws during high volume traffic periods.
The website that relays vital alerts crashed as hot northerly winds pushed the temperature past 40C in parts of the state.
As Victoria endured its worst fire day so far this summer, vulnerable communities relying on the CFA website were left in the dark.
